How the traffic light works
Each activity is judged on the 10 m wind and the gusts. The colour is the worst of the checks. A thunderstorm makes every activity red; fog or missing gust data limit the result to caution; if the wind reading is missing, no verdict is shown. The reading point is on the sea side (Acquarotta): wind at the lagoon shore can differ, and open-sea wave height does not apply to the lagoon, so it is not used.
| Activity | Good (wind / max gust) | Caution (wind / max gust) |
|---|---|---|
| Kitesurfing | 20–45 km/h, gusts up to 60 km/h | 14–55 km/h, gusts up to 75 km/h |
| Windsurfing | 18–40 km/h, gusts up to 55 km/h | 12–50 km/h, gusts up to 65 km/h |
| Stand-up paddle (SUP) | up to 15 km/h, gusts up to 22 km/h | up to 25 km/h, gusts up to 35 km/h |
| Canoe and kayak | up to 20 km/h, gusts up to 30 km/h | up to 30 km/h, gusts up to 42 km/h |
Outside the caution range the light is red. Thresholds are indicative rules of thumb, not yet validated by local schools or operators.
Before you go out
This is a forecast-model reading, not an on-site measurement and not a safety clearance. Check the local conditions, the warnings of the Coast Guard and the advice of local schools and rental points, tell someone where you are going, wear a lifejacket and avoid going out alone. Experience, equipment and the strength of the wind from the shore all matter more than any colour.
